The Current Status and Future Perspectives on Numerical Simulations of Planet Formation I:Gas and Dust Dynamics in Protoplanetary Disks

摘要

Abstract

Planets form in gaseous protoplanetary disks (PPDs), and almost every aspect of planet formation is closely related to the dynamics of gas and dust in PPDs. The gas and dust dynamics in PPDs involve many physical processes including non-ideal mangeto-hydrodynamics, chemistry, thermal and non-thermal radiation, aerodynamic drag, etc., as well as their coupling among each other. Planet formation research thus generally requires numerical simulations with high demand on the capability of the computational tools. We briefly summarize the basic physical processes that need to be incorporated in the study of planet formation, the numerical tools/algorithms needed to capture these effects, and the latest progress made in the field. Finally, we discuss the future perspectives of the field and the desire for new advancement in computation tools.
