摘要

Abstract

Recent progresses in climatological research of tropical cyclone activities with a special focus on the Northwest Pacific are reviewed in terms of energetics.Influence of energy process on the frequency and position of tropical cyclogenesis is reviewed in regard to lower atmospheric barotropic energy conversion, baroclinic energy conversion and diabatic heating.Based on the current energy metrics of the TC intensity and research on extratropical transition of the TCs,the application of energetics in the research on the TC intensity in then summarized.In view of existing issues,the importance of perturbation potential energy in tropical cyclone research is further illustrated.For the Indo-Pacific convection oscillation on an intraseasonal timescale, perturbation potential energy is shown to be an effective tool in the study of tropical cyclone activities and variations.Some perspectives for tropical cyclone research are then proposed in regard to perturbation potential energy.
