摘要

Abstract

Earth’s Critical Zone ranges from vegetation at the top,down to the bottom of the aquifer, encompassing near-surface biosphere and atmosphere,the entire pedosphere,surface and near surface portion of the hydrosphere and lithosphere.The critical zones sustain ecosystem function and most terrestrial life.Soil and water are key components of the critical zones.Hydropedology is an emerging intertwined branch of soil science and hydrology that studies interactions between soil and water across spatiotemporal scales,and plays an important role in the integrated studies of the Earth ’s Critical Zones by linking different disciplines (ecohydrology,biogeochemistry,and others)together.In the present paper the concepts,features and development of the Earth’s Critical Zone science and hydropedology are introduced,their hot scientific issues and development trends are reviewed,and their future directions are discussed.
