Abstract
After decades of rapid urbanization, urban stock land in China is getting less and less. The commonly extensive way of urban land use is no longer viable and renewal of built space will be the major task of urban planning. Progressive urban renewal is kind of 'small and detailed planning', aiming at sustained, step-by-step, delicate and lfexible improvement of built space.It’s an inevitable process of urban development. Based on an urban renewal project in UK (Re Imagination of Swansea High Street), this article conducts a prospective thinking of the regeneration contents and the planning system in progressive urban renewals. The urban renewal in UK focuses more on the creation of urban image and urban vitality than the improvement of built environment. The public interest is always a primary consideration and the regeneration work is carried out step by step through small and detailed planning.关键词
