Abstract

Poly (styrene-co-divinylbenzene-co-polyglycidyl methacrylate)(PSt-PDVB-PGMA)polymer nanospheres with tunable morphologies have been prepared through emulsion polymerization using potassium persulfate (K2 S2 O8 )as an initiator,styrene (St) and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)as monomers in the presence of different crosslinking agents.Scanning electron microscope (SEM),dynamic light scattering (DLS),thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)and Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) were used to characterize the morphology,size and composition of the polymer nanospheres.The mechanism for the formation of asymmetric polymer nanospheres and control over morphology were discussed in detail.It was found that the hydrophilicity of the crosslinking agent significantly affected the final morphology of the polymer nanospheres.The PSt-PDVB-PGMA polymer nano-spheres can be used as supports for Au nanocatalyst to catalyze the reduction of nitrophenol and self-assembly building blocks to form photonic crystals.
