Effects of Ce Addition on Microstructures and Mechanical Properties of Aluminum-Zinc Alloys

Abstract
Effects of the single addition of Ce on microstructure and hardness of aluminum Zn-based alloys were investigated,and its refinement mechanism was discussed.Experimental results show that the microstructure of alloys significantly varied from large crystals to fine crystals by the appropriate addition of Ce.The shape of a primary α-Al phase grain is converted from coarse dendrite into fine and homogeneous equiaxed crystal.The average size of equiaxed crystal is about 25 ~45 μm.Alloy hardness increases and then decreases after the first.When the content of rare Ce is 0.2%,the hardness reaches the maximum.Ce elements are mainly distributed in the grain boundary in the form of intermetallic compounds.关键词
