Abstract

Considering that it is difficult to determine the zero-mode wave velocity using time difference and velocity dif-ference between zero-mode and line-mode traveling waves adopted in the traveling wave location principle,an online re-al-time zero-mode wave velocity algorithm is proposed using information fusion at the two ends,and a single phase-to-ground fault traveling wave location method is put forward in distribution networks. The propagation characteristics of traveling-wave components on the line are analyzed,and it is found that the arrival time of inceptive traveling wave has better sensitivity and stability when the traveling wave frequencies of zero-mode and line-mode are 50 kHz and 500 kHz,respectively,after S-transform. The correlation of zero-mode wave velocity and location formula is deduced,and the minimum area including fault locations is found,where line sectioning is decomposed into T type to conduct fault lo-cation. The simulation in PSCAD/EMTDC shows that the zero-mode wave velocity and location method are accurate, and the result has engineering significance.
