Optimization of HVDC Control System for Mitigating AC Transient Overvoltage on Rectifier Station

Abstract
To mitigate AC transient overvoltage on rectifier station during recovery process from commutation failure of HVDC transmission system, variation characteristics of main HVDC state parameters during commutation failure are analyzed using electromagnetic transient simulation technique. Parameters relevant to control units and sensitivity relationships between overvoltage and undervoltage of AC bus on rectifier station during commutation failure are studied. It is found out that proportional coefficient and integral time constant of current control amplifier (CCA) as well as DC current limitation and time constant of DC voltage drop in commutation failure prediction function have obvious effects on voltage characteristics of AC bus on rectifier station. It can be optimized to achieve AC overvoltage mitigation on rectifier station after commutation failure. Study results show that CCA in rectifier station, voltage dependent current order limiter (VDCOL) and commutation failure prediction function are main control units influencing recovery process from commutation failure. Moreover, time constant of DC voltage drop of VDCOL, showing obvious effect on overvoltage mitigation but not affecting system dynamic performance, shall be the first choice for optimizing HVDC control system.关键词
