Abstract

Rice husk ash was chosen to modify the composite cementitious materials. The effects of rice husk ash on the setting and hardening process, hydration process and hydration products of polymer/cement composite cementitious material was investigated, and the mechanism of controlling the setting and harden process by rice husk ash was also discussed. The results show that the rice husk ash can accelerate the setting and hardening process of styrene-butadiene rubber/cement composite cementitious material, shorten the induction period and acceleration period of hydration, and increase the degree of early hydration. Thus, the setting time is shortened and the early strength is improved. In the setting and hardening process, rice husk ash promotes the hydration of C3S and produces C–S–H gel after the secondary reaction with a part of Ca(OH)2.
