Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of percutaneous kyphoplasty ( PKP) in the treatment of os-teoporotic vertebral compression fractures in the elderly. Methods Thirty-six elderly patients with osteoporotic com-pression fractures underwent PKP. Results The patients were safe and tolerable. The operation time was 35 ~65 minutes. 24~48 hours after surgery, pain relief was evaluated according to WHO criteria:complete remission in 19 cases, partial remission in 9 cases, mild remission in 6 cases and ineffectiveness in 2 cases. The total effective rate was 94. 4%. One case of bone cement extravasated during operation. All patients were followed up for 12 months. The patient satisfaction rate was 96. 7%. Conclusions PKP has the advantages of less trauma, shorter operative time, quicker symptom relief, and can be used as the first choice for lumbar vertebral compression fractures in the elderly patients with osteoporosis.关键词
