Abstract
Objective To compare central corneal thickness measurements made by ultrasound pachymetry and non-contact specular microscope in eyes before and post LASIK. Methods Forty eyes of twenty consecutive refractive sur-gery candidates were included in the study. The central corneal thickness ( CCT) in both eyes was measured before and three month after LASIK with non-contact specular microscope and ultrasound pachymeter. Results Both before and after LASIK, the difference in the mean CCT between non-contact specular microscope and ultrasound pachymetry was statistical-ly significant ( P <0. 001, and P =0. 02). In both situations, non-contact specular microscope measurements and ultra-sound pachymetry measurements were highly correlated ( r =0. 959, before surgery, and r = 0. 979, after LASIK). Con-clusions Both before and after LASIK, non-contact specular microscope is not in complete agreement with ultrasound pachymetry in measuring CCT. But there was an excellent linear correlation between them. Considering its convenience, non-contact way of measurement, non-contact specular microscope could be a promising modality for follow up after refrac-tive surgery or other therapeutic interventions.关键词
