Abstract
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of extraction of the lower second molars in treatment of mild and medium class Ⅲ skeletal malocclusion.Methods Eight patients aged 12-24 years with mild or medium class Ⅲ skeletal malocclusion were enrolled in the study.The inclusion conditions:ANB 0°-4°,normally developed maxillary,dental crowding ＜ 3 mm,and normal position and shape of lower third molar.The bilateral lower second molars were extracted and patients were also treated with strait wire technique.Results after active treatment,the front teeth regained normal overjet and the inclination of lower incisors was decreased 1.65° when measured to the mandibular plane (P ＜ 0.05).The molar and canine relationship achieved normal,the third molar was moved to the space of lower second molar and established occlusion with upper molar.All patients were satisfied with the treatment results.Conclusion The preliminary study suggests that success in the treatment of some mild and medium skeletal Ⅲ deformity in the permanent dentition can be achieved with fixed appliances and extraction of lower second molars.关键词
