Effect of Different Skin Reactions after Acupoint Application on the Efficacy in Treating Bronchial Asthma

Abstract
Objective To observe the effect of different skin reactions after acupoint application on the efficacy in treating bronchial asthma.Method Seventy-nine patients with bronchial asthma received acupoint application during the canicular days, 3 times in total. They were categorized according to the skin reactions after acupoint application: 24 cases in group A (no skin reactions), 30 cases in group B (reddish skin), and 25 cases in group C (blisters on skin). The Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) for adults and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the three groups were observed before the intervention and 1 year after the intervention, and the clinical efficacies were compared.Result The total effective rate was 83.3% in group A, versus 86.6% in group B and 92.0% in group C, and the between-group differences were statistically insignificant (P>0.05). After the intervention, there were no significant between-group differences in comparing the AQLQ scores among the three groups (P>0.05). In group C, the serum IgE level was significantly changed after the treatment (P<0.01). The serum IgE level didn't show significant changes after the intervention in group A and B (P>0.05). After the treatment, the serum IgE level in group C was significantly different from that in group A and B (P<0.05).Conclusion The skin reactions after acupoint application have a certain correlation with the efficacy in treating bronchial asthma, and skin blisters show a significant association with the improvement of serum IgE.关键词
