Status quo of overactivity bladder and its impact on quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the status quo of overactive bladder(OAB)and its impact on quality of life (QOL)of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods:A Total of 142 type 2 diabetic patients with OAB from a three level first-class hospital in Jinan city were investigated by general information questionnaire, Overactive Bladder Symptom Score(OABSS),Short Form Health Survey Scale(SF-12),and Patient Perception of Bladder Condition(PPBC).Results:The prevalence of OAB among patients with type 2 diabetes was 13.5 %. The QOL was significantly lower than type 2 diabetic patients both in physical component and mental compo-nent(P<0.01),especially physical health.OAB symptom had an impact on the QOL.In addition,age,duration of diabetes and complications also had an impact on the QOL.Conclusions:The prevalence of OAB in patients with type 2 diabetes was higher than patients without diabetes.OAB furthery reduced the QOL of patients with diabetes.One should pay attention to the prevention and rehabilitation of patients with diabetes and OAB,in or-der to reduce the impact of bladder symptoms to patients.Patients with older age,longer duration of diabetes, and more complications should be paid more attention to improve their QOL.关键词
