Abstract

Objective To investigate the level and influencing factors of job satisfaction in community health technical personnel in 3 provinces and 1 municipality of China.Methods Multiplestage sampling was used in this study.By purposive sampling,we selected Shandong Province and Shanghai Municipality from eastern China,Anhui Province from central China and Shaanxi Province from western China.Then,the provincial capital and a prefecture-level city with capabilities of providing good community health services were extracted from each of the above 3 provinces,respectively.After that,we selected a district from each the above extracted 6 cities and Shanghai Municipality,respectively.Then the 7 districts were stratified by the characteristics of host of community health service organizations (CHSOs),3 CHSOs were drawn from each layer at most,and finally a total of 61 CHSOs were extracted.Between August and September 2013,we conducted a survey in 713 selected health technical personnel on duty on the survey day from the 61 CHSOs by cluster sampling with a self-administered questionnaire,which involved basic situation of the health technical personnel and job satisfaction (overall job satisfaction,satisfaction with workload,moral encouragement,training opportunities and welfare).A total of 713 questionnaires were handed out,and 656 responsive ones were returned with a response rate of 92.0%.Results Among the community health technical personnel,the mean scores of overall job satisfaction,satisfaction with workload,moral encouragement,training opportunities and welfare were (3.55 ±0.74),(3.31 ±0.78),(3.28 ±0.75),(3.33 ±0.78),and (3.03 ±0.88),respectively.Significant difference in mean scores of overall job satisfaction existed between community health technical personnel from different areas (P < 0.05).The differences in mean scores of satisfaction with workload,moral encouragement,and welfare between community health technical personnel from different areas were statistically significant (all P < 0.05).No significant difference in mean scores of satisfaction with training opportunities was found between community health technical personnel (P > 0.05).Results of multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that,professional and technical title,officially budgeted post and personal income in 2012 were the influencing factors for overall job satisfaction of community health technical personnel (P < 0.05).Conclusion The overall job satisfaction of community health technical personnel was not satisfactory.It varied from one district to another and was affected by professional and technical title,officially budgeted post and personal income in 2012.In view of these,it is needed to establish a more effective system of payment allocation,and performance evaluation based on service price,form of payment of medical insurance fund,financial assistance and other aspects.
