Research Progress in Animal Models of Endolymphatic Hydrops
摘要
Abstract
Meniere's disease is an inner ear disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of rotational vertigo, fluc-tuating sensorineural hearing loss, and tinnitus, with or without ear fullness. The pathogenesis of Meniere's disease is unclear. The typical pathological feature of Meniere's disease is endolymphatic hydrops, although the precise mecha-nism is not fully understood. Studies have confirmed that endolymphatic sac plays an important role in endolymph vol-ume regulation, and the cascade of histopathological and electrophysiological changes associated with chronic endolym-phatic hydrops. Using the animal model of endolymphatic hydrops to investigate variable aspects of the disease (e.g., how hydrops occurs, its relationship with pathology and electrophysiology changes, how it affects the inner ear func-tion, and so on) would be helpful to guide the treatment of the disease. The periodic episodes of Meniere's disease sug-gest that controlling the endolymphatic hydrops might be the key to maintain the inner ear homeostasis and to avoid pro-gression of the disease.关键词
