Crystal Growth and Characterization of 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene by Temperature Reduction Method

Abstract
The 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene (TPB) crystals were grown in acetone solvent by a temperature-reduction method. The transparent bulk crystal with a size of 19mm×15mm×13mm was obtained at 40-45℃ and the growth rate was approximately 3mm/d. The TPB crystals were characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction, thermal analysis, microscopy, florescence spectroscopy and pulse shape discrimination (PSD) analysis. The results show that the TPB crystal grown is orthorhombic and the space group isPna21, the melting point of TPB crystal is 174℃ and the evaporation mass loss occurs at 283℃. The TPB single crystal grown by a cooling method has a high transparency without any macroscopic defects, but there are growth pattern on the surface. The TPB crystal has relatively sharp and intense band-edge emission peaks at 360 nm. The total figure of merit (FOM) value of TPB crystals is 0.85, indicating that it has an excellent neutrons/γ ray discriminative ability.关键词
