Abstract

This paper proposes a novel composite sealing material as an improved alternative to conventional sealing material which suffers from disadvantages such as a poor sealing effect, a larger leakage, and a lower extraction in an effort to ensure the safety of mine production, enhance the sealing effect of extraction borehole, and improve the concentration of gas extraction.The research builds on an analysis of the three leakage channels, namely the leakage channel of the material itself, the leakage channel around the coal seam and the gap between the sealing material and the pore wall, identifies the three factors influencing the air leakage, and is validated by an indoor sealing performance test using the new type of composite material and polyurethane as the sealing material, as well as field tests.The study shows that composites boast a better sealing performance than polyurethane and the composite seal provides a 75% higher average volume of gas extraction than polyurethane.The results demonstrate that the composite material is a new typed inorganic sealing material with a higher compactness, a higher expansibility and a stronger binding and affords a better gas drainage borehole sealing effect.
