Abstract

Industry convergence development is an inevitable trend for agricultural modernization. Evaluation of agricultural convergence progress helps to draw experiences and gain insights for further development. The paper identifies the concept and goal of agriculture convergence development based on Beijing agriculture development experiences. This paper constructed a scientiifc evaluation index system, which incorporates key factors of agriculture convergence, to evaluate the development level of agriculture convergence. Results show that the development of agriculture convergence in Beijing was in the ending period of growth stage during the 12th 5-year period, in that the behavior performance of agriculture convergence was better than the result performance of it. In addition, the agriculture convergence with processing and tourism sectors showed obvious progress in the areas of agricultural expansion, farmers' income increase, and rural community flourishment. However, there are still great space for the further development of agricultural service industry, agriculture productivity, and new agricultural industries to promote. More efforts should focus on enhancement of the convergence of agriculture with service sector, improvement of efifciency of resource usage, increase of agricultural productivity, and development of agritourism. The evaluation system can work as a useful tool to examine agriculture convergence and provide policy insight.
