Abstract

Rapid estimation leaf nitrogen content in crops has important significance for knowing crop growth, monitoring diseases and insect pests, and evaluating crop yield. In this study, the hyperspectral data and leaf nitrogen content in gingers for different varieties, growth stages, and nitrogen fertilizer gradients were obtained from April to September in 2015. The estimation results of leaf nitrogen content in gingers were comparatively analyzed by using the combination of vegetation index, normalized differential vegetation index, and ratio vegetation index. The sensitive wavebands for estimating leaf nitrogen content in gingers were selected. The NDSI(754, 713) and RSI(754, 713) as two new spectral indexes were constructed by using waveband combination algorithm. The results showed that MCARI(705, 750)/OSAVI(705, 750) had the best effect for estimating the leaf nitrogen content in gingers in all the selected vegetation indexes, theR2, RMSE and RE were 0.73, 0.27 and 11.64%, respectively. The NDSI(754, 713) constructed by waveband combination algorithm had the better effect than the MCARI(705, 750)/OSAVI(705, 750) for estimating the leaf nitrogen content in gingers, with theR2 of its estimation accuracy being 0.83. The 713 nm and 754 nm as two sensitive wavebands were both in the vegetation red-edge region. The measured and predicted values of leaf nitrogen content in gingers had a good consistency through the model validation. TheR2, RMSE and RE of calibration set were 0.78, 0.20 and 9.81%, respectively. Based on the analysis mentioned above, it can provide technical support for the agricultural administrative department to learn the growth of gingers quickly and make a suitable fertilization strategy.
