Abstract

Objective: Discuss how to detect dose distribution of helical tomotherapy linear accelerator by using BPH three-dimensional water tank. Methods: Acquired percentage depth dose (PPD), in-plane and cross-plane in 40.0 cm×1.0 cm, 40.0 cm×2.5 cm and 40.0 cm×5.0 cm fields, respectively, of helical tomotherapy accelerator by BPH three-dimensional water tank and OmniPro-Accept 7.5 software. Compared acquired data with gold standard provided by manufacture and analyzed the differences between them. Results: For the PDD of different depth, data collected by BPH 3D water tank system showed good consistency with gold standard no matter in build-up region or other depth and the differences between the results and gold standard were below 2%. For off-axis dose distribution of radiation field, both of the radiation field width and penumbra deviation size under three kind of radiation fields were below 1.0 mm. Conclusion: BPH three-dimensional water tank has many advantages over regular water tank in convenient positioning, fast scan speed, high accuracy, etc. Its results have better consistency with gold standard, and it can accomplish data collection and quality control detection procedure for special beam distribution of helical tomotherapy.
