Research on Icing Characteristics of Composite Insulator and Structural Parameter Analysis Based on Equivalent Diameter

Abstract
The shed structure of composite insulator has much influence on its icing characteristic.Optimizing its structural parameter can reduce the ice amount.This paper simplifies the fluid field mathematical model of composite insulators and calculate the water droplet collision coefficient along the insulation distance direction by Fluent simulation software.Based on this,this paper put forward the concept of icing equivalent diameter of composite insulator Deq.Theoretical analysis and icing test results show that under the same condition,the bigger Deq of the composite insulator,the greater the amount of ice also.Therefore,this paper uses Deq as the characteristic parameter and studies the relationship between structural parameters and Deq.The results are as follow: Deq increases with increasing of rod diameter and shed distance,but decreases with increasing of shed inclination and shed diameter.Considering the results of analysis and icing test,suggestions for optimizing the structure of composite insulators′sheds to be used in icing areas are given below: decrease the rod diameter,increase the shed inclination and shed diameter properly on condition of material stiffness allows and manufacturing cost is acceptable;increase the shed distance properly and there can be some small sheds between adjacent large sheds.关键词
