Abstract

To improve the hydrophilicity of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) ultrafiltration membranes,polyvinyl butyral (PVB) was blended with CPVC and CPVC/PVB membranes were prepared using a solution blending method.The effects of the polymer ratio on the characteristics of the blended membranes,such as membrane structure,water flux,retention rate,tensile strength,hydrophilicity,and contamination resistance,were discussed.The results showed that when the blend ratio was 9 ∶ 1 (CPVC ∶ PVB),the mass content of PVB was 43.41% on the surface of the membrane,indicating that the CPVC/PVB membrane was a significant improvement over the pure CPVC hydrophilic membrane.In this ratio,the pure water flux of the CPVC/PVB membrane was twice as much as it was for the pure CPVC membrane.Its antifouling performance and sewage flux were significantly better,compared with the pure CPVC membrane.
