Abstract

In this study,ceramsite was prepared for phosphorus removal.The optimal mixture was determined using Plackett-Burman (PB) and response surface methodology (RSM) (i.e.,Box-Behnken design (BBD)) methods.Initial Plackett-Burman design found four key components for successful phosphorus removal,namely coal fly ash,cement,CaSO4,and NaOH.Subsequent Box-Behnken design was employed to optimize the proportion of these components in the mixture.Phosphorus removal reached 93.04% with a mixture of coal fly ash (60.0 g),cement (15.0 g),amino-functionalized materials (2.0 g),CaO (15.0 g),CaSO4(3.0 g),and NaOH (15.0 g).This composition also yielded a particle strength of 118.3 N.Following analysis of the response surface,the interaction between coal fly ash and CaSO4,coal fly ash and NaOH affect phosphorus removal significantly,giving p value of 0.010 8 and 0.029 5,respectively.
