Acceleration of carbon source solubilization from sludge using microbubble ozonation

Abstract
Carbon released from sludge by ozonation could be utilized in the low-carbon wastewater treatment process.To enhance the decomposition efficiency of ozonation,a microbubble ozonation treatment was implemented.The results showed that soluble chemical oxidation demand(SCOD) increased to 1 964 mg · L-1 for an ozone dose of 200 mg O3 · (g SS)-1 by microbubble ozonation,which was 2.1 times higher than that by normal bubble ozonation.The sludge disintegration degree (DDcoD) was 41.5% in the microbubble process,while it was 18.1% in the normal bubble process.The optimal operation conditions of microbubble ozonation were determined to be as follows:ozone concentration of 100.0 mg · L-1,initial sludge concentration of 5 g · L-1,and initial sludge pH of 9.SCOD increased to 1 923 mg · L-1 and DDcoD was 41.2% for an ozone dose of 160 mg O3 · (g SS)-1 under the optimal operation conditions.Compared with normal bubble ozonation,microbubble ozonation could improve the mass transfer efficiency and hydroxyl radical reaction intensity of ozone,which contributes to the solubilization of the carbon source from sludge.关键词
