Abstract

Objective:To investigate the influence of different concentrations of matrine on the ALS gene expression in C.albicans biofilms.Methods:C.albicans collection strain ATCC76615 was obtained and biofilms were founded by slide method after following brief exposure to different concentrations of matrine in vitro.The levels of ALS1 and ALS4 mRNA expression were assessed by RT-PCR.Results:Matrine-treated cells expressed lower levels of ALS1 and ALS4 mRNA than the cells grown in the absence of matrine.High ALS mRNA was observed in normal mature biofilm.When the cells were treated with matrine,ALS decreased.The relative ALS1 was 0.96 and 0.34 at matrine concentrations of 1 mg/mL and 8 mg/mL,respectively.While the relative ALS4 was 0.93 and 0.28 at matrine concentrations of 1 mg/mL and 8 mg/mL,respectively.Conclusion:Matrine could inhibit C.albicans biofilms expressed lower levels of ALS1 and ALS4 mRNA in vitro.
