Abstract

The effects of NO3--N concentration on perchlorate reduction were evaluated in electrochemical hydrogen autotrophy and sulfur autotrophy.Compared with 0 mg/L NO3--N,the ClO4-reduction efficiency had no obvious variation at 10 mg/L NO3--N in the combined process of electrochemical hydrogen autotrophy and sulfur autotrophy.The ClO4-concentration from both electrochemical hydrogen autotrophy and sulfur autotrophy showed obvious increase at 30 and 50 mg/L NO3--N.As a competitive relation existed in the electrochemical hydrogen autotrophy and sulfur autotrophy of NO3--N and ClO4-,the ClO4-reduction process was inhibited under the appearance of NO3--N,suggesting the NO3--N reduction were preferential to the ClO4-reduction under the same conditions of hydrogen autotrophy and sulfur autotrophy.The effluent pH from the sulfur autotrophy varied between 7.40 and 7.98.H+ from the sulfur autotrophic reduction of NO3--N and ClO4-became the precursor of the electrochemical hydrogen autotrophic reduction of NO3--N and ClO4-,which resulted in the increase of pH from electrochemical hydrogen autotrophy and settled the problem of excessively high pH from the sulfur autotrophy.
