Abstract

The differences of leaves with different shapes on male and female Populus euphratica and Populus pruinosa as material, the peroxidase isozymes were analysed.The results showed that there were differences among the four different shape leaves on the female Populus euphratica tree, the linear leaves had the same belts with lanceolate, while the ovate leaves had the same belts with broadly ovate leaves.While, there were no difference among four different shape leaves on male Populus euphratica tree, comparing the peroxidase isozymes belts of ovate leaves and broad ovate leaves on female and male trees , leaves on female tree had 1 more belt than on the male trees in POD-B region (Rf=0.398), which can be defined as a special belt for female trees.And this special belt between male and female also can be found in the seedling of Populus ephratica, and can be applied for sex identification.All the different shape leaves on the same Populus pruinosa tree, no matter male or female trees, have the same peroxidase isozymes belts, but there were significant difference of belts Rf of male and female Populus pruinosa in POD-B district, however, this difference did not show on its seedlings.The results showed that peroxidase isozymes can be applied on the sex identification of Populus euphratica and Populus pruinosa .
