Abstract

Objective:To explore the effect of hydrogen sulfide upon the proliferation of endometrial stromal cells.Methods:Immunohistochemical characteriaztion of Hydrogen sulfide synthase,Cystathionine-β-synthase (CBS) and Cystathionine-gamma-lyase (CSE) in endometriosis (EMS) lesions and normal endometrium.Normal human endometrial stromal cell line (ESCL) was recruited for proliferation assay with sodium hydrosulfide and PI3K/AKT pathway specific inhibitor LY294002 treatment.Results:The expressions of CBS and CSE in ectopic endometrium were higher than those in normal endometrium,when compared to the expression of CBS and CSE in endometrial stromal cell,glandular epithelial cells was lower.Hydrogen sulfide could increase the proliferation of ESCL and could be partially abolished by LY294002(P<0.01).Conclusion:Hydrogen sulfide could stimulate endometrial stromal cell proliferation in vitro at least partially via PI3K/Akt signaling pathway,which might contribute to the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
