Abstract
Objective To Observe the clinical efficacy of thalidomide in the treatment of elderly Recurrent Aphthous Ulcers (RAU) and its impact on subsets of lymphocytes in the peripheral circulation.Methods Thalidomide with dose of 12.5～ 25 mg was administered for 52 elderly patients with early phase of RAU per day.The clinical effect was measured by comparing the remission time and the number of ulcers pre-and post-intervention.Meanwhile,the total number of peripheral lymphocytes and the ratio of CD4+T cells to CD8+T cells were measured before and after the intervention.The control group consisted of health volunteers.Results Compared with the control group,there was a significant decrease of CD4+T cells (P＜0.05) and a significant increase of CD8+T cells (P＜0.05) in the patients with early phase of RAU before treatment.The ratio of the two subsets was also abnormal.After the intervention,the ratio of the lymphocyte subsets was improved.Meanwhile,there was a significant increase in the remission time of the ulcers in the patient group (P＜0.05) and the number of ulcers was significantly reduced (P＜0.05).Conclusion The ratio of the peripheral lymphocyte subsets is abnormal in elderly patients with the early phase of RAU.Thalidomide has a significant effect in correcting the abnormal ratio of CD4+ T cells to CD8+ T cells.It can also increase the remission time of ulcers and reduce the frequency of ulcer breakouts.The clinical efficacy has been satisfactory.关键词
