Abstract

In a smart substation, the sampling system and GOOSE system are two independent information sampling and transmission systems. To deal with the problem that the substation must quit operation or only be equipped with the remote backup protection with low selectivity when sampling information within the whole substation is lost, an emergency protection system was proposed. Firstly, multi-terminal current differential protection or directional protection were utilized to recognize the rough fault area. Next, the measured reactance percentage comparison method and the compensation voltage phasor deduction comparison method were put forward to recognize the exact fault area for double or more terminal system respectively. Acomprehensive emergency protection scheme combining the zone I distance protection was proposed. Theoretical analysis and simulation test results show that the emergency protection scheme are with good reliability and sensitivity, and can provide adequate protection against the impact of fault resistance, which can effectively ensure the safe operation of the substation occurring serious sampling abnormality and the regional power grid.
