Microstructure and Abrasive Wear Property of High Speed Steel with High Molybdenum Content

Abstract
High speed steel with 10wt% molybdenum content was prepared by casting method.The microstructure was analyzed using SEM,XRD and EDS,and the abrasive wear property of the high steel was tested using ML-100 type wear testing machine.The results show that the microstructure of the high speed steel with high molybdenum content is characterized by M2C type carbides distributed in matrix which is composed of martensite and austenite after heat treatment.The abrasive particle size and load have obvious effect on wear property of the high speed steel.As the abrasive particle size or load increases,the wear mass loss increases.The wear failure mode is micro-cutting caused by abrasive particles.When the abrasive particle size and load is small,the M2C can resist the micro-cutting action effectively.On the contrary,the M2C type carbides in matrix can be lift up because of plowing action of abrasive particle under the condition of big abrasive particle size and load.The carbides can not resist the micro-cutting action effectively,resulting in severe wear.关键词
