Effect of Mg Content on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Al-Si-Cu Alloy for Automobile Engine Cylinder

Abstract
Al-Si-Cu alloys with different Mg contents for automobile engine cylinder were obtained by melting,the effect of Mg content on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy was studied.The results show that adding a certain amount of Mg in the alloys can significantly improve the tensile strength,hardness of as-cast and T6-state alloys,improve the mechanical properties of the alloy.With the increase of Mg content,Mg2Si phase appear in the alloys,which reinforces the tensile strength and yield strength of the alloy.However,excessive Mg element will not be all dissolved,resulting in coarser Mg2Si brittle phase,it can reduce the tensile strength and hardness.The optimum mechanical property of test alloy can be obtained when adding 0.4% Mg.With the increase of cooling rate,the tensile strength,yield strength and hardness of the alloy increase.关键词
