Effect of cultural practice on the growth of cutting seedlings in a nursery of superior Chinese fir clones

摘要

Abstract

To address the problems of growing cutting seedlings in a Chinese fir nursery, the effect of tree branch layering angle, fertilizers, and nursery soil texture on the number, quality, and survival rate of cutting seedlings was investigated.The results showed that different nurturing methods had a significant effect on the total number and diameter of cutting seedlings, but had no effect on their survival rates: (1) The highest numbers of cutting seedlings with larger diameters were produced when the layering angle of fir branches was set at 50°-70°.The lowest numbers of cutting seedlings were produced when the layering angle was set at greater than 70°.Cutting seedlings of smaller diameters were produced when the layering angle was set at less than 50°.(2) Total number of cutting seedlings produced under different fertilizer treatments was in the order of compound fertilizer > Urea > NH4HCO3 > organic fertilizer, while diameter of cutting seedlings was in the order of organic fertilizer > compound fertilizer > Urea > NH4HCO3.(3) The effect of soil texture on the number and diameter of cutting seedlings was in the order of sandy soil > medium-sandy soil > medium roam soil.
