Effects of Al3+onα-CaSO4·0.5H2O Whisker Formation in Hydrothermal Conditions

Abstract
The effects of Al3+ (Al2(SO4)3·18H2O) on hydrothermal formation of α-CaSO4·0.5H2O whiskers were investigated under condition of reaction temperature 130℃, stirring speed 60 r·min-1 and reaction time 90 min. α-CaSO4·0.5H2O whiskers with shorter diameters and smaller aspect ratios are synthesized with Al3+ in solution at concentrations of 4.50×10-3 mol·L-1 and 9.03×10-3 mol·L-1, which indicates that Al3+ is a crystal inhibitor and can produce α-CaSO4·0.5H2O whiskers with lower aspect ratios. The possible doping of Al3+ in α-CaSO4·0.5H2O whiskers with decreased interplanar spacing (rather than replacing Ca2+) is confirmed by XPS and XRD analysis, and SEM and EDS results confirm the adsorption of Al3+ on whisker surface. The preferential adsorption sites are (001) and (002) facets, which results in smaller aspect ratios.关键词
