Supercontinuum Generation in a Tm-Doped Fiber Amplifier

Abstract
A Tm-doped fiber master oscillator power amplifier system is built based on a gain-switched seed laser.The maximum output power of the gain-switched seed laser is about 250 mW with a slope efficiency of 28.5%.With a pulse duration of 56.5 ns, the peak power of the gain-switched laser pulse is 221.2 W, corresponding to a peak power density of 0.35 GW·cm-2, and the 3 dB linewidth of the output spectrum is 0.09 nm centering at 1 942 nm.In the first-stage amplifier, the maximum output power is about 1.33 W with a slope efficiency of 48.6%.The corresponded peak power of the laser pulses is boosted to 1.2 kW with the peak power density reaching 1.86 GW·cm-2,and the 3 dB linewidth of output spectrum is only 0.06 nm limited by the resolution capability of the optical spectrum analyzer.Then, the supercontinuum generation is observed in the second-stage amplifier.The 3 dB bandwidth of the generated supercontinuum is about 490 nm covering a broad wavelength band from 2 μm to 2.6 μm.关键词
