Influence of pulmonary infection on serum procalcitonin and B-type natriuretic peptide in patients with acute left heart failure and the correlation between serum procalcitonin and B-type natriuretic peptide

Abstract
Objective To observe the influence of pulmonary infection on serum procalcitonin (PCT) and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) in patients with acute left heart failure and the correlation between serum PCT and BNP.Methods A total of 50 patients with acute left heart failure in affiliated hospital of our school from January 2015 to October 2016 were recruited and divided into acute left ventricular failure group (29 cases) and acute heart failure complicated with pulmonary infection group (21 cases) according to whether combined with pulmonary infection, the concentration of PCT and BNP in serum were compared between two groups in the first and the seventh day after admission, and the correlation between PCT and BNP was analyzed.Results The levels of serum PCT and BNP in acute heart failure complicated with pulmonary infection group were significantly higher than those in acute left ventricular failure group (P<0.05).The result of correlation analysis showed that the levels of serum PCT was positive correlation with BNP in the first and the seventh day after admission(r=0.63,P=0.003;r=0.70,P=0.001)in the acute heart failure complicated with pulmonary infection group, but no correlation was found between the two in the acute left ventricular failure group (r=-0.21,P=0.272;r=-0.09,P=0.640).Conclusions The levels of serum PCT and BNP in acute heart failure complicated with pulmonary infection are significantly higher, that is positive correlation between the two, the measurement of PCT and BNP is useful for the early judgement on patient with acute left heart failure combined with pulmonary infection or not, and is conducive to estimated the severity of the illness.关键词
