A Post-decoding GMSK Coherent Demodulator

Abstract
This paper proposes a post-decoding Gaussian Filtered Minimum Shift Keying(GMSK) coherent demodulator to simplify the coherent GMSK receiver in existing communication systems.At the receiver,phase and carrier frequency synchronization needs to be accomplished firstly,and the original phase is compensated to zero.Then the receiver alternately takes the amplitude of the imaginary part and the real part of GMSK baseband signal to form a new information sequence.A post-decoding is proposed to recover the information bit of GMSK signal from the information sequence.The simulation demonstrates that the performance of the proposed method is 0.5 dB less than that of the precoded GMSK when the bit error rate(BER) performance is equal to 10-3,yet it achieves the same performance as that of the traditional Viterbi coherent demodulator with less calculation,which makes it suitable for the performance upgrade of the existing GMSK communication systems using non-coherent demodulator.关键词
