Effect of Antarctic Krill Meal in Diet on the Fecundity of Litopenaeus vannamei Broodstocks in Nutrient Enrichment Phase

Abstract
To study the function of Antarctic krill meal to Litopenaeus vannamei broodstocks in their nutrient enrichment phase, we designed three kinds of artificial formula diets with different krill meal content (0, 10%, 20%), which were numbered Diet K0, Diet K10 and Diet K20, respectively, in this study.Three kinds of artificial formula diets were used to feed L.vannamei broodstocks in their nutrient enrichment phase for 60 days, while the fresh bait, Nereididae, was used as the control.After 60 days' nutrient enrichment phase, the females were subjected to unilateral eyestalk ablation, then mature females were subjected to artificial fertilization.The number of eggs (fecundity) was estimated, as well as the egg hatchability and metamorphism rate.In addition, the egg diameter and fatty acids profile were also measured.Fatty acids profile of the three kinds of artificial formula diets was analyzed, so did the fresh bait.The spawning rate, continuous spawning rate and average spawning times in four treatment groups were calculated.The results showed that the female broodstocks in control group had the highest fecundity, but had no significant difference (P>0.05) with Diet K10 and Diet K20 group.There was no significant difference (P>0.05) between the four groups about egg hatchability.As to metamorphism rate, the control group, Diet K10 and Diet K20 group had no significant difference (P>0.05) with each other, and had significant difference (P<0.05) with Diet K0 group.Diet K0, Diet K10 and Diet K20 groups had higher spawning rate, continuous spawning rate and average spawning times than the control group.Diet K20 group had the maximal egg diameter, had no significant difference (P>0.05) with Diet K10 group, and had significant difference (P<0.05) with Diet K0 group and control group.Fatty acids profile analysis showed that there was a positive correlation between the fatty acids profiles in eggs and in diets partly.Furthermore, the egg fatty acids profiles in Diet K10 and Diet K20 groups had the similar even superior status than that in control group.We concluded that Diet K10 and Diet K20 which contained certain content krill meal (10%~20%) could be the excellent artificial formula diets in L.vannamei broodstocks' nutrient enrichment phase.关键词
