The Role of Social Capital in the Growth of Community Based Social Organizations:A Case Study of Xiaojiahe Community in Chengdu

Abstract
The paper provides an in-depth analysis of a case in community-based social organization development in Xiaojiehe Street Neighborhood using the framework derived from social capital theory. Through extensive interviews, on-site observations, experts evaluations, and comparative analysis , the author concludes that bonding social capital has played an important role in ensuring the success of grassroots social organizations, and linking social capital seems to contribute more to short term success than bridging social capital. Nonetheless, linking social capital may also subdue horizontal bridging, negatively affecting sustainability of grassroots social organization's development. The author thus proposes strategies to strengthen the role of bonding and bridging social capital rather than linking social capital to promote grassroots social organizations'development.关键词
