Abstract

Perforated plates play a significant role in uniform air flow distribution within electrostatic precipitators. There are a few researches on resistance characteristics of perforated plates which mainly focus on low porosity range and small number of holes. However, studies on perforated plates with medium-high porosity range and large number of holes which are widely used in electrostatic precipitators are few. This experimental work aims to investigate the effect of geometrical parameters and flow condition on resistance characteristics of perforated plates. More precisely, several perforated plates with porosity range of 0.3≤β≤0.68, holes numbers range of 116≤n≤1567 and different relative thickness ranging in 0.21≤t/d≤0.5 were tested. Study draws conclusions that resistance coefficient decreases as porosity, Reynolds number and relative thickness increase. Porosity has the most remarkable effect on it, relative thickness takes second place and Reynolds number is minimal. A piecewise expression, providing important reference value, is proposed to estimate resistance coefficient for this type of perforated plates.
