Current Status of Online and Mobile Phone Text Messaging-based Appointments and Registrations in Community Health Center Patients in Hangzhou

Abstract
Objective To investigate the current status of online and mobile phone text messaging-based appointments and registrations in community health center patients in Hangzhou.Methods This survey was conducted between October 1st and 14th,2014.A total of 6 community health service centers (CHSCs) were randomly selected from the 6 main urban areas of Hangzhou(1 from each of the sampling urban areas),and the outpatients visited the CHSCs on the survey day were recruited as the participants.A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate the status of the participants,including the demographic details,frequencies of using mobile phone text messaging and the internet,as well as the status of online and mobile phone text messaging-based appointments and registrations.Six hundred and twenty-three outpatients received the survey,78.8% (491/623) of them returning responsive questionnaires were selected as the final participants.Results Of the 491 participants,66.8%(328/491) aged 50 or over;39.7%(195/491) used mobile phone text messaging once or more times a day,18.3%(90/491) did that once a week,5.3%(26/491) did that once a month,and 36.7%(180/491) had never done that;48.1%(236/491) used the internet once or more times a day,11.6%(57/491) did that once a week,1.8%(9/491) did that once a month,and 38.5%(189/491) had never done that.Gender and registered residence were not associated with the differences in the frequency of using mobile phone text messaging (P>0.05),while age and educational attainment were significantly associated with that(P<0.05).Gender,age and educational attainment were closely associated with the differences in the frequency of using the internet (P<0.05),whereas registered residence was not(P>0.05).One hundred and seventy-four (35.4%) participants used the online appointment and registration,while 317(64.6%)did not;84 (17.1%) used the mobile phone text messaging-based appointment and registration,but 407(82.9%)did not.Age and educational attainment were remarkably attributed to the differences in the rate of using online appointments and registrations(P<0.05),while gender and registered residence were not(P>0.05);frequency of using the internet caused the differences in the rate of using online appointments and registrations (P<0.05).Age and educational attainment resulted in the differences in the rate of mobile phone text messaging-based appointments and registrations (P<0.05),while gender and registered residence did not(P>0.05);frequency of using mobile phone text messaging caused the differences in the rate of mobile phone text messaging-based appointments and registrations(P<0.05).Conclusion Most of the outpatients of CHSCs in Hangzhou are 50 years old and older,and the utilization of the e-appointment and e-registration among them is low.关键词
