Investigation on plankton and production estimation of silver carp and bighead carp in Taiping Lake, Anhui Province

Abstract

From January to October,2014,a seasonal investigation on plankton species composition was carfied out in Taiping Lake that is located in the north of Huangshan city,Anhui Province and connected to the Yangtze River via Qingyi River.The result showed that there were 89 phytoplankton species belonging to 7 phylums 56 genera in the lake.The range of phytoplankton was 0.69-4.26 mg·L-1 and its average biomass was 1.86 mg·L-1.Chlorophyta was the main species (39.33% of the sum),followed by Bacillariophyta (22.47% of the sum) and Cyanophyta (16.85%).The Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Pielou evenness index of phytoplankton ranged from 1.07 to 1.66,0.53 to 0.71,respectively.Fifty-two species belonging to 20 families 40 genera of zooplankton from four categories were identified.The biomass of zooplankton ranged from 0.67 tol.68 mg·L-1 with an average biomass of 1.17 mg·L1.The amount of the Protozoa,Rotifer,Cladocera and Copepoda of the zooplankton were 7,27,12 and 6 species,respectively.The Shannon-Wiener diversity index and Pielou evenness index of zooplankton ranged from 0.89 to 2.15 and from 0.41 to 0.73,respectively.In conclusion,the water in Taiping Lake was mesotrophication according to the comprehensive evaluation of our investigation results.The productions of silver carp and bighead carp were estimated about 1 348 t and 1 922 t based on the productivity of plankton in the lake.
