摘要

Abstract

There are various kinds of Chinese dish names, which contain abundant Chinese traditional culture and reflect the cognitive ways and thinking characteristics of Chinese people.Most previous studies about dish names focused on their cultural connotation, translation methods and pragmatic functions from the perspectives of linguistic, semiotic, translation and aesthetic.But the metonymic thinking in the dish names has not arisen much attention.From cognitive and metonymic point of view, this paper concludes: there are several kinds of metonymy existing in the dish names, such as location, production, containment and homophony metonymy.The metonymic translation of dish names is influenced by different contexts.To some extent, the metonymic mechanism of the cuisine names manifests the Chinese concrete thinking and substantial philosophy.
