Abstract

At present,sludge drying is a necessary step for sludge handling and resourcing.Thermal drying is an effective way to desiccate sludge.However,odors and volatile organic compounds are generated and released during sludge drying,which could lead to odor pollution.The aim of the present study was to form a rating evaluation method of odor potential pollution capacity suitable for an indirect sludge drying process and provide important reference for the prevention and control of odor pollution.The main odor pollutants were selected by a multi-index integrated assessment method.The pollutant concentration,olfactory threshold,threshold limit value,smell security level,and saturated vapor pressure were used as indices,based on related domestic and foreign regulations.Using the pollution potential as the evaluation target and the risk index and odor emission intensity as evaluation indices,a rated evaluation model of odor pollution potential by the pollutants was built according to the Weber-Fechner law.An indirect sludge drying case was analyzed by the evaluation method,with results showing that the odor potential pollution capacity value was 3.21 and the odor potential pollution level was Ⅳ.
