Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the transverse stability of the dental arch on the cleft side of patients with unilateral complete cleft lip and palate(UCLP)after expansion with modified lip bumper.Methods:The study involved 16 patients with UCLP who had undergone unilateral maxillary expansion.CBCT records had been taken before unilateral maxillary expansion(T0),post-treatment(T1),and after the one-year retention period(T2).The distance between the buccal tip alveolar bone,root base bones and median sagittal plane on the cleft side was measured.Results:The distance of the median sagittal plane to the buccal tip,alveolar bone and root base bone on the cleft side were significantly increased(P<0.05).After one-year retention the distance of the median sagittal plane to the buccal tip and the alveolar bone on the cleft side were with no significant reduced,but the distance of the median sagittal plane to the root base bone increased.Conclusion:The modified lip bumper can effectively increase the width of dental arch,and the long-term effect was stable.关键词
