Abstract

Droplet area is an effective method to characterize the hydrophobicity of the material surface.Consequently,we introduced the development process of droplet area measurement software,which was used for studying hydrophobic state of pollution layer on composite materials.A core algorithm corresponding to the each step of image recognition droplet morphology was explained.In the course of software development,Laplace-Gauss operator (LOG) was used for image processing.Firstly,a Gauss low-pass filter was used to smoothen the image signals.Then,a Laplacian high-pass filter was used to extract the edge of the target object.According to the features of artificial pollution tests,reasonable grayscale threshold was set automatically to separate droplet image form the whole picture.Based on the droplet area software successfully development,artificial pollution tests of composite insulators were carried out.Droplets area was used for representing the hydrophobicty strength of pollution layer.The research shows that the LOG operator,combined with the indigo droplet,can effectively improve the accuracy of drop area method in pollution layer hydrophobic state description.Precise analysis can be applied to the hydrophobicity of composite insulators in the artificial pollution test.
