Application of Oxygen Nucleophiles Hydroxyl and Alkoxide Anions in Derivatization of Fullerenes

Abstract
Due to the promising potentials shown by fullerene derivatives for applications in the areas of organic photovoltaics, biology and medicine, derivatization of fullerenes has attracted great interest and a range of methods are well developed.It is typical for fullerenes to undergo reactions with nucleophiles due to their strong electron-deficiency.However, compared to carbon nucleophiles, reactions of oxygen nucleophiles with fullerenes have received less attentions.Herein, combined with our previous work, the use of hydroxyl anion(OH-) and alkoxide anion(MeO-) in the derivatization of fullerenes is reviewed, and the related reaction mechanisms are discussed, which may shed light on exploring new methods for fullerene derivatization.关键词
