Abstract

This paper introduced the basic properties of spheroidal graphite irons material in ISO 1083:2004. The mechanical properties of spheroidal graphite cast iron are mainly determined by its matrix structure, which is different from graycast iron. Spheroidal graphite irons composition and carbon equivalent can be controlled in a fairly narrow range, for the change effect of chemical composition on its mechanical properties is relatively small. The section sensitivity of spheroidal graphite irons is obviously less than that of gray cast iron because the spherical graphite splits less on the matrix. Alloying elements influence the formation of matrix of spheroidal graphite cast iron, thereby affect the mechanical properties. The matrix microstructure of spheroidal graphite cast iron can be changed byheat treatment to improve its mechanical properties.
