Abstract

The polyethylene glycol (PEG) was grafted on molecular chains of sodium alginate (SA) using 1-ethyl-3-[3-(dimethylamino)propyl]-carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC-HCl) as coupling agent, N,N-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) as catalyst, formamide and N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) as solvent.FT-IR analysis result showed that PEG had been successfully grafted onto the SA molecular chains, indicating SA-g-PEG was synthesized.The alginic acid esters were prepared by wet spinning fibers using SA-g-PEG as raw material, water as solvent, calcium chloride as coagulants.The single-factor test result of mechanical properties and morphology showed that the optimum conditions were the spinning solution concentration of 3%, the coagulation bath concentration of 5%, the spinning speed of 27 s-1, and the draft ratio of 2 times.Under the conditions, the mechanical properties of fiber could reach to 1.8 cN/dtex.
